We're thrilled to open Dream Scenario in Kingston this Friday! This absurd comedy stars Nicolas Cage as a hapless family man who finds his life turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. It's Cage's best film in years -- rated an impressive 93% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (which is an extremely rare score for comedies).

We also present two limited engagements of two of the year's finest films: Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon and Finnish auteur Aki Kaurismäki's Fallen LeavesPlease do not miss your opportunity this week to see them -- their engagements are only limited due to the need to allocate screen time to a pair of prestigious heavy-hitters coming next week: Bradley Cooper's Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro and The Boy and the Heron. This month we're experiencing a log-jam of high-interest, high-quality releases that is unprecedented for us!

Speaking of The Boy and the Heron, the much-anticipated new film from the Japanese master of animation, Hayao Miyazaki: be the first to see this film in Kingston with one of our newly-added preview screenings on Thursday December 7!

Our December repertory programming kicks off with Elf (2003) - 20th Anniversary & the poetic English drama Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988).

Next Thursday, CFRC 101.9FM hosts a special screening of the Christian Slater pirate radio cult classic, Pump Up The Volume (1990).

Today is your last chance to catch Testament ðŸ‡¨ðŸ‡¦May DecemberTwilight (2008) & Barbie at the cinema!

We continue to play the following movies, both of which will close this week: See you at The Movies,
Wendy

Killers of the Flower Moon

"This is an utterly absorbing film, a story that Scorsese sees as a secret history of American power, a hidden violence epidemic polluting the water table of humanity." - Guardian

Martin Scorsese delivers the most important movie of the year: an unflinching depiction of a series of murders perpetrated against the oil-wealthy Osage Nation that occurred in Oklahoma in the 1920s.

Note: We have a special screening with on-screen captions on Sunday December 3 @ 4:30pm.

Opens Friday

Dream Scenario

"Nicolas Cage goes delightfully, derangedly meta in Dream Scenario, a smart, dizzyingly entertaining horror-comedy that morphs into scathing social satire." - Washington Post

A truly singular madcap comedy that channels the full extent of the idiosyncratic madness of Nicolas Cage, allowing him to go fully off the leash as a family man who finds himself becoming a celebrity when strangers start seeing him in their dreams.

Fallen Leaves

"Kaurismäki works magic with understatement, especially in Fallen Leaves, possibly his greatest film." - Time Magazine

The Boy and the Heron

"There are flashes of Hitchcock, 2001: A Space Odyssey and even Back to the Future, and while the director’s films can be earnest, it’s often very funny." - Times

One of our greatest living filmmakers, Hayao Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle), returns with his first movie in a decade, a staggeringly ambitious vision that will be remembered as one of the great films of the year. A young boy finds himself drawn into a perplexing world after relocating to a scenic rural home following a family tragedy during WWII.

Two versions: Japanese With English Subtitles & Dubbed English

Preview screenings begin Thursday December 7!

A Modern Christmas Classic

Elf (2003) - 20th Anniversary!

"Delivers a warm, feel-good Christmas ending that will inspire the hope that even New York City can have Christmas spirit -- at least of the Hollywood kind." - Decent Films

One of the only Christmas classics made in the twenty-first century, a breezy, hilarious romp that features Will Ferrell giving a hysterical performance as an overgrown elf who travels to New York City to meet his real father.

R.I.P. Terence Davies 1945-2023

Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) - 35th Anniversary!

"With an unfailing eye for place, décor, costume, and gesture, the director glides his camera through tangles of memories to evoke joys and horrors with a similar sense of wonder." - New Yorker

The debut feature of Terence Davies (The Long Day Closes, Benediction, The House of Mirth) is a beautiful depiction of memory that thoroughly burrows into one family's history in Liverpool in the 1940s and 50s, devastatingly capturing their tragedies and their attempts to recover.

The Independent ranked the film at number 6 in its top 20 British films of all time.

CFRC 101.9 FM Presents

Pump Up the Volume (1990)

"Pump Up the Volume is the kind of movie that hits home. It touches on real emotions and is a reminder of just how darn awkward it is to be a young adult." - Movie View

Featuring a deliriously great soundtrack, this iconic teen comedy follows the exploits of a rebellious radio DJ who uses his platform to rail against societal ills and combat corrupt authority.
