Work begins on Bayridge Drive cycling and pedestrian improvements
July 5, 2023
Construction is scheduled to begin on the first phase of Bayridge Drive’s active transportation improvements starting in early July.
Once completed, this project will create a connected, protected and off-road route for pedestrians and cyclists stretching from Henderson Boulevard to Cataraqui Woods Drive.
During construction motorists can expect to see lane reductions as crews install the new pathways and upgrade intersections along the corridor.
“This project is an important corridor in our build out of the City-wide cycling network, it is very much needed to address gaps and barriers in the existing cycling and pedestrian infrastructure in this area.” said Danny Potts, Project Manager, Transportation Services. “This will dramatically improve north-south connections along Bayridge Drive for pedestrians and cyclists and create connections into express transit service along the corridor.”
Phase one, includes Cataraqui Woods Drive to Woodbine Road. Phase two, which will start later this year, includes Woodbine Road to Henderson Boulevard. The signalized intersections along the corridor will also be upgraded as part of this project for all ages and all abilities.
In addition to the active transportation improvements, this project will also include roadwork and storm sewer construction on Bayridge Drive between Princess Street and Cataraqui Woods Drive as well as sidewalk repair and construction to fix gaps.
More information on this project is available on City’s website. Any additional construction-related traffic impacts will be published on the City’s Road Closures webpage and distributed through CFRC and the City of Kingston's Weekly Traffic Report .
