Two Kingston Museums Get Spooky for Hallowe'en Season

October 2, 2023

Kingston, ON— The Museum of Health Care and the Murney Tower Museum, two of the
spookiest local museums, are opening their doors to those who dare to visit on Saturday,
October 21st between 3 pm-8 pm for a joint Halloween event.

You’ve heard the stories about Halloween and Kingston museums, right? Legend says that is the
time they truly “come to life”! Designed for all ages, the Escape the Museum event will have
participants exploring both museums to earn their keys and win a prize. As participants
desperately search for a way out, they will come upon others who have been trapped inside the
museums...some for hours, others for centuries! Admission for this event is by donation, but a
free ticket is required due to capacity restrictions at both sites. Walk-ins will be permitted if
space allows on the day of the event. Costumes are encouraged!

“The Museum of Health Care and the Murney Tower Museum are the perfect settings for a
Halloween event,” says Programming and Communications Coordinator, Claire Notman. “This is
a time of the year when we can engage with the public in a really fun way. It is a treat to
partner with the Murney Tower Museum for this event!”
“We are delighted to be partnering with the Museum of Healthcare to offer a unique

Halloween experience,” says Murney Tower Museum’s Manager and Curator, Simge Erdogan-
O’Connor. “We invite all Kingstonians to join us to experience two iconic sites of Kingston in an

entirely new way. From Halloween-themed decorations to fun games, scary artifacts to unusual
costumes, Escape the Museum has everything we want from the spooky season.”
Those that are brave enough, are free to choose at which site they will start their quest. The
Murney Tower Museum and the Museum of Health Care are just a short 3 minute walk from
each other. Each participant will receive a guide at their chosen starting point, and will follow
the clues to earn a key. Once a key has been earned at one site, the fun starts again at the next.
Both keys must be earned to win the prize.
Excerpt from event promotion:
You decide to explore two museums that are particularly spooky at this time of the year to see if
the stories are true. You enter, and the door slams behind you. It’s locked! You are not alone. As
you desperately search for a way out, you discover others trapped inside the museums...some
for hours, others for centuries. The only way out is to find the key!
