Guidelines

University Councillors are advisors and ambassadors for Queen’s and as such, actively participate in the annual meeting of the Council and ongoing Council business during their terms. University Council seeks members who have been actively engaged in the Queen’s community as students and/or alumni; who have a variety of skill sets arising from professional, volunteer, and life experiences; and who are both willing and able to fully engage and participate in Council. The University Council Newsletter provides an overview of additional engagement opportunities offered to Councillors and identifies ways in which members can fulfil their role and stay involved with the University.

In order to help us achieve the goal of reflecting the diversity of Canadian society, alumni are encouraged to consider individuals from equity deserving groups such as women, Black, racialized and Indigenous peoples, persons with a disability, and persons who identify in the 2SLGBTQ+ community when nominating a candidate.

Expectations

University Council meets annually in person in Kingston, ON and prior to that a virtual Orientation will be held for newly elected Councillors on June 11 (11 am – 12:30 pm ET). The 2024 AGM will be held via Zoom in early October (date TBC). Optional activities and events will be held on the afternoon of October 17 and the morning of October 18, 2024.

All nominees are encouraged to read the University Councillor Role Description to familiarize themselves with the role and its expectations.

Please email the University Secretariat if you have any questions.
