Princess Nai and Other Stories marks new chapter for Kingston writer Jamal Saeed

October 7, 2025

Released today, Princess Nai and Other Stories marks Kingston author Jamal Saeed’s newest contribution to Canadian literature.

Saeed spent 12 years as a prisoner of conscience in Syria before settling in Kingston in 2016. His acclaimed memoir My Road from Damascus was shortlisted for the Hilary Weston Prize, and this new collection continues that legacy.

Written across borders and time, Princess Nai and Other Stories blends observation and imagination to explore how love, freedom, justice, and beauty endure even in hardship.

Now living and writing by Lake Ontario, Saeed draws inspiration from the people and places around him—from bustling cafés to the colours of fall.

Saeed joined CFRC to reflect on the power of storytelling to survive, and even thrive, in all places.
