HELP INSPIRE ARTWORK FOR THE ISABEL TURNER BRANCH AT KFPL’S ‘PAINTING OUR COMMUNITY’ EVENT
October 10, 2025
The Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) is inviting the community to get creative and share their ideas for new public artwork at the Isabel Turner Branch. Join us for Painting Our Community, a free, family-friendly drop-in event on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Cataraqui Centre Branch.
Made possible through the generous support of the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area, the event will be led by Indigenous artist Jaylene Cardinal of W.C. Creatives. Cardinal's bold murals, fashion designs, and mixed media art celebrate Cree traditions, revitalizing public spaces and bringing communities together.
This collaborative event is an opportunity for community members of all ages to help envision artwork that will be part of the newly renovated Isabel Turner Branch when it reopens next spring. Attendees can participate in craft activities with Cardinal, share their creative ideas and enjoy a storytime with Liv Rondeau, Kanyen'kehá:ka educator, artist and Vice Principal of Indigenous Education at the Limestone District School Board. Light refreshments will also be provided.
“The Library is thrilled to be partnering with Jaylene Cardinal for this special project,” said Diana Gore,
KFPL’s Manager of Marketing and Community Engagement. “The Isabel Turner Branch is a vital community hub, and this artwork will reflect the spirit, creativity and connection of the people it serves. I’m excited to invite our community to play a part in shaping the space ahead of its reopening.”
Those unable to attend in person can still contribute by sharing their ideas online through a feedback form. All submissions will be shared with the artist to inform the final design.
KFPL looks forward to welcoming the community back to the newly renovated Isabel Turner Branch when it reopens in the spring of 2026. Follow along with project updates here.
