Major Fire Damages Two Downtown Kingston Buildings: No Injuries Reported
December 22, 2025
KINGSTON, ON – December 22, 2025 – A devastating fire broke out in downtown Kingston last
night, damaging two historic buildings on King and Princess before being extinguished this
morning.
The fire originated in the basement of 354 King St. East, home to Shuroop, a boutique sushi and
ramen restaurant. The blaze spread through the building, destroying both the main floor and
second floor. Fortunately, there were no residential units on the second floor.
The fire then spread to the adjacent building at 358 King St. East, which houses A-One Clothing, a
well-known local retailer. All residents in that building were promptly alerted and safely evacuated
from the premises.
No injuries have been reported.
The Kingston Fire Department responded swiftly to the emergency and successfully contained the
fire. The blaze was fully extinguished by 8:30 a.m. this morning. The fire department has begun
cleanup operations at both sites.
"We are incredibly grateful to Kingston Fire & Rescue for their prompt response and expertise in
containing this fire and keeping our community safe," Downtown Kingston BIA Executive Director
stated.
Princess Street and King Street are currently closed to vehicular traffic as cleanup continues.
However, all businesses in the downtown area remain open for business during this crucial holiday
shopping season.
The community is encouraged to support downtown businesses during what is the busiest and
most important time of the year for local retailers.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
