Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) has completed the construction of Southeastern Ontario’s first positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) suite.

This imaging technology scanner is highly sensitive and provides detailed images to help diagnose and monitor illnesses. Scans can help identify a range of conditions, including cancer, heart disease and brain disorders.

The $10 million project was made possible through a combination support from the Government of Ontario and philanthropic support.

“Kingston Health Sciences Centre is an older hospital, I think is probably the best way that you could put it. We are desperately in need of renewal and renovation, but this particular part of the hospital has undergone a complete overhaul…” Chief Operating Officer with KHSC, Dr. Renate Ilse, stated in an interview with CFRC. “…We did the first few patient scans and it’s really a great example of what can be done and what can happen when our renovations are more complete in the future.”
