At their last meeting, Council unanimously supported a motion aimed at making Kingston more business-friendly.
In response to feedback from the local business community and his experience as a small business owner, Councillor Jimmy Hassan brought the motion before council. The motion directs staff to streamline licensing and approval processes and improve coordination between building and fire services to ensure the municipality is supporting the evolving needs of Kingston’s business community.
“I’ve had multiple people approach me about a lot of these issues and obstacles that they’ve encountered trying to open their business or expand their business or even change their business a slight way,” said Councillor Vincent Cinnani. “I’ve got a lot of hope that this will actually make things better and smoother for people wanting to do great things in our community.”
Staff will report back to Council in the first quarter of 2026 with their findings and updates on the improvement process.
