Four second-year Queen’s University students have launched Seedle, a free, verified mental health directory designed specifically for post-secondary students across Canada.
The idea began in their first year, when the group noticed how easily mental health can slip into the background amid coursework and the transition into university life. Wanting to make support easier to find for their peers, they created a platform that filters resources by campus.
“Last year we all started university and we recognized that that was kind of a time where we had a bunch of new experiences…,” said Yehonatan Shakarghi, Seedle’s Chief Executive Officer. “…You can kind of put your mental health on a back burner. And so, we started talking a little bit and we recognized it’s much, much more common than you’d expect. And so we really wanted to do something about that.”
Moving forward, they hope their database can help educational institutions identify and address gaps in services.
