Music From Miles Around Exhibit Launches at City Hall

June 22, 2026

By Aara Macauley, CFRC's Broadcast Journalist and Local Journalism Initiative Reporter.

A new exhibition opened on June 20 in the Market Wing Cultural Space at City Hall aims to celebrate and explore Kingston’s musical history, from prior to the city’s establishment to today’s local artists.

The Music From Miles Around exhibition takes an ambitious approach to capturing the sound of Kingston, encompassing the evolution of musical creation in the city across generations and genres, as well as exploring the impact of radio, record culture, festivals, live music, and today’s creative scene.

The city aims to showcase the people, places, and moments that wrote Kingston’s music story through archival materials, artifacts, personal stories, immersive experiences, and interactive elements.

CFRC spoke with City Curator Melissa Cruise about what visitors can expect at this free, year-long exhibit.
