Major enhancement planned at Ivy Lea Port
March 13, 2025
As the ice melts and spring approaches, City Cruises Gananoque is preparing for a landmark season with a multimillion-dollar renovation at Ivy Lea port – an investment it says will elevate the tourism experience in the 1000 Islands.
"It's not an expansion, but rather a renovation with enhanced property features," said Lisa Medulun, vice-president of operations for City Cruises Gananoque.
"We're putting in a new dock, a ticket booth, retail space, upgraded washrooms, and an outdoor patio. Guests will now have a scenic space to relax by the waterfront, whether they're boarding a vessel, waiting for others to return, or simply soaking in the view."
A highlight of the renovation is the introduction of the Two Castle Cruise, an upgraded tour that will take visitors past both Boldt Castle and Singer Castle, doubling the historic and scenic experience.
"This new offering builds on our long-standing one-hour tour around Boldt Castle," said Medulun. "Now, visitors can enjoy an extended journey that showcases two of the most majestic castles in the region."
City Cruises Gananoque, along with Dockside Restaurant, recently earned eight Best of Kingston awards, underscoring the company's role as a major player in regional tourism.
"We've seen passenger growth return to our towns since COVID, and 2024 was an incredible season, surpassing our expectations," said Medulun. "The momentum is there, and we know local businesses and hotels are eager for our season to begin."
Operations at Ivy Lea Port are expected to launch around April 18, depending on weather conditions. A grand opening to mark the renovations is anticipated in May.
Gananoque’s tourism scene is further strengthened by its close-knit integration with other attractions, including the Thousand Islands Playhouse, the 1000 Islands Boat Museum, and the town’s vibrant waterfront.
"We're a significant piece of tourism in the area," Medulun said. "Once the weather shifts, people start returning – not just for the cruises, but for everything Gananoque has to offer."
