Kingston’s new Traffic Control Box Pilot Project is transforming overlooked street infrastructure into vibrant public art.
The municipal initiative aims to brighten the downtown core, support local artists, and deter graffiti by turning traffic control boxes on Princess Street into canvases. Five artists were commissioned to create and install pieces in their own unique mediums and styles.
As the first murals go up, the city’s Public Art Coordinator Taylor Norris has hopes the project can expand next summer, adding more colour to unexpected corners of the city.
