A man charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder in the stabbing of three people on Montreal Street in September 2024 made a brief court appearance to hear an additional nine names of people he is forbidden to contact.

Justice of the Peace Jack Chiang presided over Courtroom 2 at the Kingston Ontario Court of Justice on Wellington Street on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024. Accused murderer Andre Wareham appeared by video, this time from Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay, Ontario. Chiang read nine new no-contact orders into the record.

No-contact orders are typically issued under specific circumstances in Ontario, including witness protection or to protect a victim from threats. The Crown and the court consider various factors, including the severity of the offence, when deciding on a no-contact order. Last month, 25 individual names were added to the no-contact order and read aloud for Wareham.

On Friday, Wareham wore an orange jumpsuit and a black durag and was quiet as he listened to the court.

Wareham’s defence attorney, Steven Hinkson of Hinkson Law in Toronto, sent a message through the duty counsel requesting that the matter be adjourned to December so that he could speak with the Crown and set a date for a judicial trial.

Chiang ordered the matter to return in mid-December.

Wareham is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in the violent stabbing attacks on and around Montreal Street on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024. Those attacks led to the deaths of 38-year-old Taylor Wilkinson and 41-year-old John Hood, according to police, and the hospitalization of a third, unidentified victim, who sustained "serious injuries." Following the stabbings, Wareham engaged police in an hours-long standoff.
