At their July 17 meeting, the Kingston Police Service Board received an update on its 2023–2026 Strategic Plan. While none of the five major goals have been completed yet, according to the update, steady progress is being made.
Key goals include a 10 per cent reduction in the weighted crime rate with a focus on the downtown core, ensuring all residents feel safer, and improving weighted clearance rates.
Achievements Chief Scott Fraser highlighted include a decrease in prison drone drops with the addition of a new task force, Kingston’s hosting of a province-wide human trafficking conference, and teaming up with the Rotary Club to deliver fraud prevention workshops.
Fraser emphasized community engagement and partnerships with shelters, bylaw, and mental health services as being one of the most important recent improvements.
“When we did the Strategic Plan, our big key was partnerships and we are really working hard at that,” said Fraser. “It’s starting to pay dividends and hey, if it was easy, it’d already be done.”
