KINGSTON BASKETEERS 2023 CAMPAIGN: WRAPPING UP HOPE FOR VICTIMS OF
GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

Local volunteer project will help women who are starting over

Kingston – ON

Imagine leaving your home with only a few belongings, to make a fresh
start.

This is what many women face when leaving an abusive situation. That's
why Kingston Basketeers is helping collect thoughtful gift baskets for
women making the transition out of an emergency shelter, and into a new
beginning.

As gender-based violence persists as a growing social issue in Canada,
the role of initiatives like Basketeers becomes even more vital. In
collaboration with Kingston Interval House, the Kingston Basketeers
chapter is committed to providing support for local, at-risk women.

The volunteer organization is asking the community to provide
laundry-sized baskets filled with new items in either a personal or
household theme. (Keeping these in separate baskets allows them to be
more easily distributed based on individual circumstances.) Each basket
donated will go to a survivor of gender-based violence.

Basketeers is also accepting cash contributions which will be used to
purchase gift card bundles to help these women acquire crucial personal
or household items.

“I’m excited to celebrate Kingston Basketeers’ fifth year of supporting
women who are making a new start after transitioning away from violence.
Our community has made this campaign a success each year and I know 2023
will be no different.”
– Claire LaPlante, Chapter Lead, Kingston Basketeers

Meeting Room A on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
