KHSC expands withdrawal management and addiction services with $1.8M provincial investment

Kingston Health Sciences Centre has received $1,840,000 from Ontario Health to expand services at its Detoxification Centre.

The centre, located at 240 Brock Street, is the only publicly funded withdrawal management site between Ottawa and Oshawa. The centre currently operates as a Level II medically supported model, but the new funding will allow it to transition to a Level III detoxification site with 24-hour clinical care.

The investment will add four medical support beds, provide 24/7 Registered Practical Nurse coverage, create a weekend Nurse Practitioner position, and reclassify all 22 existing beds as observation beds so they can function as fully intake-ready spaces. With these expansions, KHSC expects to increase its capacity by 20 per cent.
