KFPL - Strengthening community ties through language at Café Franglish
August 23, 2024
Café Franglish, organized by l’Association Canadienne-Française de l’Ontario, Conseil Régional des Mille Îles (ACFOMI), is an upcoming series held at various locations across Kingston, including Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) branches, the Centre Culturel Frontenac (CCF), and the Kingston Military Family Resource Center (KMFRC). This program brings together Francophone and Anglophone communities to practice English and French in a welcoming environment, fostering language skills and meaningful connections.
“Le Café Franglish un événement gratuit, est basé sur une relation d’entraide entre francophones et anglophones,” describes ACFOMI. “Si tu es francophone, c’est l’occasion parfaite pour toi d’améliorer ton anglais et d’aider en même temps une personne anglophone à améliorer son français et vice-versa. Tous les participants sortiront ainsi satisfaits de ce partage de compétences linguistiques.”
The event will take place at KFPL locations from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on the following dates: • Sept. 11, Central Branch, Meeting Room 2
- Sept. 25, Calvin Park Branch, Friends of the Library Meeting Room
- Oct. 9, Central Branch, Meeting Room 2

- Nov. 13, Central Branch, Meeting Room 2

“KFPL is a natural gathering place for building community connections,” said Liz Coates, Manager, Programming & Outreach. “Partnering with ACFOMI for Café Franglish aligns with our commitment to inclusivity, cultural exchange, and lifelong learning. By providing opportunities for French and English speakers to connect, learn from each other, and build lasting relationships, we’re creating welcoming spaces where our diverse community can come together and thrive.”
