GET READY FOR SUMMER READING FUN WITH KFPL’S ALL-AGES READING CHALLENGES

Media Release June 9th 2026- The Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) invites readers of all ages to join the Summer Reading Challenges! Whether you're in search of adventure, mystery or inspiration, KFPL has something for everyone to enjoy at their own pace, with chances to win fantastic prizes all summer long.

All Summer Reading programs are free with a library card. Registration opens on Saturday, June 6, and the challenges run from Saturday, June 27, to Saturday, Aug. 22. Participants can register at any KFPL branch or online through Beanstack.

"Advancing literacy is at the core of our mission, and summer is one of the most important times to keep that momentum going," said Liz Coates, Manager of Programming and Outreach. "We know life gets busy in the summer, which is why we've designed reading challenges that meet every reader where they are. For kids and teens, keeping up with reading over the summer makes a real difference because it protects the skills they've worked hard to build and it sets them up for a strong fall. For adults, there's never a bad time to discover your next favourite book."

Readers log their reading minutes and complete activities to earn tickets for prize draws. Children track reading in 15-minute intervals, while teens and adults track in 30-minute intervals. Each interval earns one ticket. Participants can also complete up to 15 additional activities for extra tickets. Children complete the challenge at 300 minutes of reading, while teens and adults complete it at 8 hours. An additional bonus ticket is awarded upon completion of the challenge.

Participants track their reading using Beanstack, a digital platform available via web and mobile app. A KFPL-designed paper booklet will also be available at all branches for those who prefer a non-digital option. The booklet can be used alongside Beanstack, or participants can choose to use only the booklet and have library staff log their reading and activities during branch visits. To be eligible for prizes, participants must be registered on Beanstack and their minutes must be tracked in Beanstack.

This year, thanks to the generous support of many community donors and the Friends of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, KFPL is excited to offer more prizes and more chances to win than ever before!

Participants can win an exciting range of prizes, including a staycation package with hotel accommodation, shopping gift cards and dinner, a Nintendo Switch 2, bikes, AirPods, a KitchenAid mixer, a Hisense 58" UHD 4K A6 Series Smart TV, a family pass to the YMCA, Music Together classes, a Yoto Player, children’s activity baskets and much more! Plus, the first 150 children and teens to complete this year’s challenge will receive a free gelato from Mio Gelato.
