Attention party people! The Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area (BIA) has your weekend plans sorted, and it’s going to be a blast! Kicking things off, and back by popular demand, Montreal-based DJ Truwayz returns to Springer Market Square this Friday from 8pm to 11pm for a concert and dance party. Truwayz made his Kingston debut to a massive crowd at this summer’s Kingston Buskers Rendezvous. “We thought a DJ dance party was the perfect way to welcome back returning students and introduce new students to downtown Kingston and all it has to offer,” says Sandi Griffiths, events manager with the BIA. “Truwayz is talented and fun, and his energy is infectious.” The event is free, and attendees will also be treated to free samples and giveaways from local downtown eateries. The fun continues on Saturday with the fourth and final Princess Street Promenade of the year. From 10am to 5pm, Princess Street will close to vehicular traffic from Barrie Street to Ontario Street, so local businesses and community groups can claim a piece of pavement and offer games, crafts, contests, giveaways and more. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon with friends or pick up a few things to deck out your dorm room. “The fall Promenade definitely has a different vibe than the summer ones,” confirms Griffiths. “We see fewer tourists and more residents, but we also see groups of housemates shopping for their new place and first-year students discovering their new favourite café. It’s fun to be part of it.” So, mark your calendars and get ready for a weekend of dancing, eating, shopping and playing. Downtown Kingston has you covered. |
