Council unanimously backs Remembrance Day parking enforcement pause

Council has unanimously approved a motion to pause parking enforcement during Remembrance Day ceremonies.

The motion, brought forward by Councillor Ryan Boehme, directs staff to suspend all parking enforcement annually on Nov. 11 between 10 A.M. and 12 P.M..

The pause is intended to prevent parking tickets from discouraging or inconveniencing those gathering to observe the day. The motion notes the city’s strong military history, making it especially important to remove barriers for residents attending ceremonies.

“After this past remembrance day, I’ve got numerous sort of notices of people who were one or two minutes late getting back to their vehicle and had a parking ticket from attending a ceremony,” explained Councillor Boehme. “It’s kind of one of those frustrating things where I feel like this is something quite simple that we can do…”

This change will take effect beginning this year.
