Council has directed staff to review the City’s on-street parking and enforcement policies, following ongoing concerns about illegal parking in residential neighbourhoods.
The motion, brought forward by Councillor Paul Chaves at Council’s last meeting, cites issues including vehicles blocking sidewalks, encroaching onto roadways, and creating accessibility and safety concerns for pedestrians.
Introducing the motion, Chaves stated, “This is probably one of the biggest concerns I have received from residents in my district… I just figure it’s time for a motion.”
The review will examine Kingston’s current parking and enforcement policies, as well as approaches used by other Ontario municipalities. City staff have been directed to report their findings and recommendations back to Council by the fourth quarter of 2027.
