Community feedback prompts review of consultation process for new supportive and emergency housing sites

February 10, 2026

Following a unanimous vote, Council is moving to improve how the City consults with residents on new supportive and emergency housing sites.

The motion, brought forward by Councillor Lisa Osanic, responds to community criticism over engagement practices tied to recent housing locations.

The motion directs staff to review and improve public engagement practices, including the timing and method of notifications, the way community meetings are conducted, and how concerns are received and addressed. Councillors emphasized that better communication is needed to reduce fear and misinformation while still advancing supportive housing initiatives.

Staff will report back to Council with recommendations by July 2026.
