City to consider options for a new fitness centre in Central or North Kingston

The City will be considering opportunities to establish a new fitness centre in Central or North Kingston in anticipation of the Wright Crescent YMCA relocation.

The City currently owns and operates fitness facilities at Artillery Park, the INVISTA Centre, and Kingston East Community Centre.

The current YMCA facility located on Wright Crescent is expected to relocate to the INVISTA Centre by 2030. The YMCA’s departure could create a gap in fitness and recreation services in the area, especially for residents who access recreation opportunities with the support of the City’s Municipal Fee Assistance Program.

With unanimous support from Council at their last meeting, City Staff will review opportunities to establish a fitness centre in the central or north area of the city, including as part of the future redevelopment of the Memorial Centre site, and report back to Council with potential options by the third quarter of 2027.
