The Francophone Working Group – represented by Vice-Chair Laurianne Montpetit, the Executive Director of Association canadienne-française de l’Ontario, Conseil régional des Mille-Îles (ACFOMI) and Melanie de Wys, Chair of ACFOMI’s board of directors, appeared before Council to speak to the group’s Mid-Term Report.
Established in 2024, the Francophone Working Group represents the interest of the Francophone community in Kingston, including promoting existing French-language programming, increasing access to City services in French, and examining City initiatives, events, and policies through a Francophone lens.
In its mid-term report, the working group highlighted several achievements since their term began, including access to city forms in French, funding support for Francophone daycare providers, and collaborating with members of the City’s cultural sector, resulting in activities such as a bilingual Youth Open Mic and an augmented reality workshop.
