With a strike deadline rapidly approaching, Queen’s University and workers have yet to reach an agreement that can be ratified by both parties.
Five bargaining units representing approximately 1000 workers at the university, including food services, library workers, tradespeople, classroom and laboratory technicians, and custodians and caretakers, will be able to go on strike starting on Monday February 3, 2025.
“We’re hoping we all get a deal before the deadline. But if not, we’re ready.” CUPE 229 President Steve Senchal said in an interview with CFRC.
The latest update from the University’s labour news page simply states negotiations are ongoing, and the University respects the unions’ right to strike.
The university also updated their FAQ page on Feb. 29 adding “contingency plan information” in the event of a strike.
