Into the Magic Soundbox IV

May 2, 2009 · Posted in News ·

On April 23, Into the Magic Soundbox, CFRC’s showcase of musicians & spoken word artists performing radio live, presented the fourth installment of the past year.  For this performance, the Soundbox travelled into space.  Astrophysicists discussed the properties of our galaxy while Kingston’s Irritable Poets  troupe explored the community’s perspective of the galaxy and space that surrounds us. All of this was anchored by a moving, atmospheric soundtrack provided by some of Kingston’s finest musicians.
Tune in Sunday, May 10 at 8pm to hear the broadcast on CFRC 101.9 FM.

Naisatron Workshop

May 1, 2009 · Posted in News ·

On April 26, CFRC partnered with New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) to present a workshop for Kingston youth to build light sensitive electronic instruments, or Naisatrons.  Hector & Rene from NAISA led a group of eager participants through the basics of electronic assemblage: learning to solder various components to create an otherworldly sci-fi instrument that creates sound based on fluctuations of light.  Recordings from the orchestra of Naisatrons will be featured at next month’s Deep Wireless Sound Art festival in Toronto.
